Tractor crash closed Route 5 in Hartland, road now re-opened

On Monday, May 26, at 2:59 p.m., Vermont State Police (VSP) troopers from the Royalton Barracks responded to a single-motor vehicle crash on Route 5 in Hartland.

Hartland and Windsor Fire & EMS, along with Hartford Fire’s Rope team, all rendered aid to the operator of a crashed John Deere Feed Chopper Tractor. Troopers conducted an investigation and discovered that Joseph Ferris, 19, of Braintree, was operating the large tractor eastbound on U.S. Route 5 and lost control of the vehicle while attempting to maneuver around a curved portion of the roadway. The tractor veered off the roadway and down a steep embankment, landing near Lulls Brook.

Ferris sustained suspected moderately substantial to serious injuries during the crash and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. The scene remained secured due to downed power lines with Green Mountain Power and Hartland Fire on site through Monday night.
