According to an update from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), the south side of the Quechee Gorge Bridge is almost complete, with paving beginning earlier this week. As of Tuesday morning, VTrans expects to move the barrier and switch the lane closure to the westbound lane by the end of this week; the exact day of the switch is weather-dependent. Motorists can expect flaggers to be present to control traffic.
After the switch, traffic will resume with alternating travel over the bridge, controlled by a traffic signal. There will be occasional stoppages in the travel lane to allow trucks to enter the construction area.
The upstream side of the bridge will no longer be accessible to pedestrians. The downstream sidewalk will open to pedestrians next week. Pedestrians traveling from the gift shop parking lot to the southern sidewalk are advised to walk up to the crosswalk at the visitor center. The hiking trail is closed at the bridge underpass through the fall of 2025, but the adjacent trail is open via a signed detour through the visitor center.
