The communities of Pomfret and Woodstock lost a beloved friend and exemplary non-profit administrator, communicator, public servant, and local historian when Marjorie “Marge” Wakefield passed away tragically last month.
Wakefield, 69, was a hospitality and museum industry veteran who gave 21 years of service to Billings Farm & Museum, predominantly as the marketing and public relations coordinator, before moving on just over four years ago to be a standout assistant manager at the M&T Bank branch on The Green in Woodstock Village. During an abundant and fruitful life of service with a smile, Wakefield also served in various capacities in Pomfret town governance and also followed in the footsteps of her mother, Kathy Wendling, in serving as a trustee of the Woodstock History Center and keeper of the flame of Pomfret’s past for many years.
Longtime colleagues of Wakefield’s from the worlds of the nationally renowned farm and outdoor museum in Woodstock, Pomfret town government, banking, and local history continued to mourn their steadfast friend and coworker’s untimely passing earlier this week, even as they took time to share heartfelt remembrances of the deeply loved person everyone knew simply as Marge.
