On April 13 at 1:56 p.m., the Hartford Police Department (HPD) responded to a welfare check at the Quechee Gorge following a report from an individual who received a text message indicating possible suicidal intent from the mother of his child.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a woman went around a safety barricade on the bridge. A bystander attempted to intervene but was unable to prevent her from jumping into the gorge.
HPD initiated an immediate search; however, the individual was not located before being carried downstream by the current. Search efforts remain ongoing.
The individual’s identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
This case remains under active investigation.
