The first of four planned road closures along Vermont Routes 100 and 100A in Plymouth and Bridgewater got underway on Monday morning, July 7, facilitating the full replacement of a bridge over Pinney Hollow Brook.
The bridge along Route 100A in Plymouth, which is located about three miles southwest of U.S. Route 4 and 3.7 miles north of Route 100, will be closed for 42 days. Reopening of the road through the site is projected for Aug. 18. The bridge is one of four slated for replacement over the next two years due to heavy damage suffered by the spans in both Plymouth and Bridgewater during the catastrophic flooding that hammered Vermont on July 10-11, 2023.
Work on the Pinney Hollow Bridge began at 7 a.m. on Monday, when a traffic detour to Route 100 went into effect. The detour will remain in place throughout the entire bridge rebuilding process. A contract for replacing the 31-foot-long concrete slab bridge in Plymouth was awarded in February to Cold River Bridges of Walpole, N.H., at a cost of $4,150,000.
