Controlled burn took place in Pomfret late last week

A fire crew from the Green Mountain National Forest conducted a prescribed burn of approximately 28 acres along the Appalachian Trail near the Woodstock/Pomfret town line beginning around 10 a.m. last Thursday, April 9. The efforts, which took three hours to complete, are part of a larger operation of nearly 1,000 acres in southern Vermont, designed to reduce heavy accumulations of grass and brush, reduce the potential for wildfires, and regenerate critical wildlife habitat.
