The Barnard Selectboard has accepted a $16,000 bid from contractor Tom Hasson to replace and install new front doors for the Town Hall.
According to selectboard chair Richard Lancaster, there were no other bids, despite initial interest from several other parties.
According to Lancaster, the doors will be replaced because of age and lack of function. “They did not seal properly,” Lancaster told the Standard. “Also, in respect to safety, they didn’t have push-out bars or the appropriate safety mechanisms to allow egress from the building, so that was the primary reason they were put on the list for replacement.” The doors will be made in the period architectural style of the Town Hall, which in its history had been a meeting house with pews, he said. “Part of the expense is maintaining the historic relevance of the building,” said Lancaster. The doors will arrive in 12 weeks, and Lancaster said he expects a quick installation this spring.
