WEST WINDSOR ORDINANCE REGULATING OUTDOOR BURNING

The West Windsor Selectboard adopted an Ordinance Regulating Outdoor Burning on September 22, 2025. It will take effect on November 21, 2025, unless a petition, signed by at least five percent of the voters of West Windsor, is filed with the municipal clerk by November 5, 2025 asking for a vote to disapprove the ordinance (24 V.S.A. ยง1973). If such a petition is received, the Selectboard will warn a special meeting, and the voters may vote on that question. Blood Memorial Library, Brownsville Butcher and Pantry, and the Brownsville Post Office. The purpose of this ordinance is to regulate outdoor burning in the Town of West Windsor, require permits for outdoor burning, authorize the Fire Chief and Fire Warden to impose and lift burn bans, and set forth enforcement provisions and penalties for violations. Key provisions include:

Burn permits required for all outdoor burning other than recreational fire pits or grills.

Authority for Fire Chief or Fire Warden to declare and lift burn bans in stages.

Penalties for violations: $100 for first offense; $500 for second offense; $1,000 for subsequent offenses.

Liability for costs to extinguish unpermitted fires and damages caused.

Enforcement by designated town officials and law enforcement authorities.
