At around 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, a vehicle crashed into a house along Route 106 in South Woodstock, leaving the driver injured and the house off its foundation. According to Interim Woodstock Police Chief Chris O’Keeffe, the vehicle was operated by a 16-year-old female, who was driving a black 2010 Toyota Rav 4. O’Keeffe said that the driver reported she was putting on her seatbelt at the time of the crash. He noted that speed did not play a major factor, estimating that the car was traveling northbound on Route 106 at a speed of 25-35 miles per hour. O’Keeffe added that neither phone distraction nor impairment seemed to play a factor.
The vehicle struck the corner of the house, which is situated in close proximity to the road. The car did not go through the wall, but did cause the house to be moved off its foundation, according to O’Keeffe. He said that the homeowner was in the house at the time, but was several rooms away and, while startled, was not hurt. The driver was transported to the hospital with injuries. O’Keeffe noted that several citations for the driver are pending.
